Microsoft Dynamics NAV in textile manufacturing.

Success story:

The company Kümmel & Co. GmbH is a family-run textile company from Kitzingen, founded in 1965, which specializes in the production of high-quality shirts and blouses for professional use.

With its approximately 20 employees, Kümmel specializes in different target groups such as companies and schools. With the Mainstick brand, Kümmel regionally equips companies, practices and clubs with team clothing in Mainfranken, which is embroidered or printed in the company’s own embroidery shop. With the Dress for School brand, the company is one of the leading suppliers of school clothing in Germany.

TALK IS SILVER, REFERENCES ARE GOLD:

Standard ERP solution in textile manufacturing.

Initial situation

„Before we decided to implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV with anaptis GmbH (formerly Infosim GmbH & Co. KG) in 2018, we worked with a tool that was specifically tailored to the textile industry. At some point, the tool was no longer updateable and was severely outdated. For example, we were either unable to call up economic key figures at all or only in a very cumbersome way. In addition, we developed a number of wishes for a new system:

We hoped for a simple representation of our complex sales process. After all, we have three components: Color, size, special order (e.g. extra long shirt).

We also wanted to simplify our packaging licensing to meet the requirements of the German Packaging Act (VerpackG).

In addition, we wanted to connect our school stores (based on Shopware), where parents can directly order school clothes for their children online, to our ERP system.

Lastly, we wanted a more efficient way of dealing with committees. After all, we have the challenge that we can hardly estimate how much fabric will be used before production. Lastly, we finally wanted diverse and user-friendly controlling options.”

Challenges at a glance

  1. Outdated textile industry solution that could no longer be updated
  2. Desire for a simple representation of the sales process
  3. Desire for the mapping of packaging licensing (fulfillment of the requirements of the VerpackG)
  4. Desire for the connection of the individual school shops
  5. Desire for simple system-side handling of rejects
  6. Desire for meaningful controlling possibilities
Agile ERP-Einführung

Objective

“It was our goal to replace our outdated textile industry solution, which could no longer be updated, with a modern ERP system that could map our individual processes (e.g. sales, packaging licensing, store connection, rejects) and offer a wide range of controlling options.”

Partner search

“anaptis (or Infosim) was recommended to us both by our hardware supervisor in Würzburg and by a friend and neighboring company. So we had initial, very positive discussions and didn’t even start looking for alternatives. We particularly liked the local proximity.”

Implementation

“During the implementation of Dynamics NAV, there was initially some resistance among employees due to the new system. By changing the processes step by step and continuously showing the benefits, we were able to find a satisfactory way for everyone.

We have always found anaptis (or Infosim) to be a solution-oriented company. Communication was always fast and straightforward, and we greatly appreciated always having a direct contact person. These advantages have not changed to this day.”

Result

“We are very satisfied with the implementation of Dynamics NAV. This has ensured us future viability or updateability, simple operation and a wide range of evaluation options (especially in controlling). Even though there is still room for improvement in some areas, Dynamics NAV is very good, especially in controlling. We have all important key figures quickly at hand and are informed about the current status of our company within a few minutes. We also like the fact that we are independent of the partner company thanks to the standard solution and could, so to speak, change the servicing company at any time.

About our individual wishes:

  • We solved our complex sales process by matrix views. Color, size and special design result in a variant. The storage location and availability are checked automatically. In addition, the display is very clear.
  • We now comply with the requirements of the German Packaging Act (VerpackG) as follows: We can now enter the data on sales packaging directly in Dynamics NAV. As soon as it is necessary, we can export a tabular report on which sales packaging was delivered with date, weight and packaging type. We can then easily report this to the central reporting register LUCID and to the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister.
  • We have also connected our individual school stores (based on Shopware) to Dynamics NAV, so that we can now send documents such as order confirmations from Dynamics NAV.
  • Lastly, anaptis (or Infosim) built us a customization for simplified handling of production rejects.”

Improvements at a glance

  1. Introduction of a modern and user-friendly standard ERP solution
  2. Simple mapping of our complex sales process through matrix views
  3. Possibility to enter sales packaging data directly in Dynamics NAV and to export a tabular report (compliance with VerpackG)
  4. Connection of the individual school shops
  5. Adaptation for easy handling of committees
  6. Process optimization in accounting/finance (especially company key figures)
